Game 7 of the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships saw Italy and Sweden take to court in a closely contested battle, Sweden eventually emerging victorious by 61-44.
A thrilling opening quarter saw Italy take an 8-3 lead over Sweden in the opening five minutes of the two teams’ first game of the 2015 European Wheelchair Basketball Championships. Just over two minutes later, however, Sweden hit back with three consecutive baskets to not only level the game, but take a two point lead (10-8). Working to stop the Swedish momentum, Italy fired back with five consecutive points of their own to hold a 13-10 advantage at the close of the first 10 minutes.
The second quarter saw both teams continue to battle hard as Sweden edged out the quarter by 12-11 to enter half time just two points behind their opponents: Italy leading 24-22.
Italy edged ahead the start of the third quarter (26-22), but found every basket answered by Sweden until – with just over five minutes played – Joakim Linden sunk two from the line for Sweden to tie the game on 30 points apiece. The momentum now firmly switched sides as the Sweden Men’s Team put on a phenomenal performance to earn eight consecutive baskets (38-30), going on to end the quarter ahead by 40-34.
The first four points of the final quarter went to Italy as the team fought back to within two points of their opponents (38-40), but Sweden were able to find another level as they raised their game to secure a 61-44 victory.
